Abdul (Muta) Mutashobya is an educator, researcher, and author with a deep passion for language education, curriculum development, and educational leadership. He is currently a Doctoral student in Educational Leadership at Michigan State University, focusing on language policy, teacher training, and digital literacy integration in education.

Muta holds a Master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Applied Linguistics from Michigan State University, where he was a Daryl and Glenda Minor Fellow, as well as a Master’s in Education (M.Ed.) in Advanced Teaching from the University of the People, supported by an International Baccalaureate (IB) scholarship.

His professional journey has been shaped by international teaching experiences. From 2017 to 2018, he served as a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) at Michigan State University, teaching Swahili and supporting cross-cultural learning. Before that, he worked at United World Colleges East Africa in Tanzania, where he was a Swahili Foreign Language teacher, IB Language B instructor, and a residential parent.

Muta’s research interests include English language instruction in non-native contexts, performance-based assessments, bilingual education policy, and integrating technology into language learning. His Master’s research focused on enhancing Tanzanian secondary school students’ confidence in spoken English through practical, performance-based approaches.

In addition to his academic work, Muta is the author of Success in English: Essential Skills for Academic and Professional Growth, a book designed to help Tanzanian students, teachers, and professionals develop real-world English communication skills. He is also an advocate for education accessibility, having personally overcome financial barriers in pursuit of higher education.

Currently, he is working on teacher training programs and consulting in secondary education reform, with a focus on competency-based learning, English instruction, and digital literacy initiatives in Tanzania and beyond.
